Shoreditch (London) based web technology company, Byng Systems, is looking for a Senior PHP Developer to take on a lead programming role on business and enterprise web application products. Candidates must be proficient in object-oriented and ORM PHP or Java development with evidence of previous experience of working in team environment and experience in LAMP technologies.

At Byng Systems we put an emphasis on longevity of our applications by putting in the time at the beginning we seek to minimise the cost of change and most of all making working with each others' code a pleasure. A readable, clear and experienced coding style is essential.

Responsibilities

On a practical level the role will include;

• Creating object models in PHP using configured database schemas and entity descriptions
• Creating APIs to manipulate the model, using use cases as guides
• Devising database schemas and object maps
• Technical quality assurance of junior developer programming
• Communicate ideas and concepts to other members of the development team

An ideal candidate would be

• Experienced in business applications development with an understanding of Information management (not simply website development or packaging of third party applications)
• Solidly grounded in object-oriented principles (circa 5 years plus)
• Proficient PHP or Java programmer (ideally with computing degree/higher education)
• Comfortable with templating engines, RESTful APIs and XML
• Familiar with SVN/CVS version control and issue tracking
• Aware of use case testing, unit testing and iterative/agile development processes
• Aware of SAP BusinessObjects, Java, Oracle and other Business Intelligence solutions

More about the position

The position will be working with a team on exciting and challenging projects including a national system for managing information in sport in the UK, contractor systems and other people management solutions. We are a modern workshop; developing with push technology, real time connections and glossy UI interfaces.

This is a permanent position with two interviews at our London offices. Examples of work will be required prior to interview stage so please attach an archive file showing at least two classes of programming code that you have written then show good abstraction and separation of concerns.

Competitive salary of £30 - 50k depending on experience, flexible working times and amazing office/location. Fun times to be had in a young and forward thinking team.
